What is pup play?
Pup play (or puppy play) is a practice in which a person takes on the role of a dog (or handler), and oftentimes uses gear and equipment to further enhance the experience of being a puppy. It has historical roots within the gay leathermen and BDSM subcultures, though has since blossomed into it's own "postmodern-subculture".
While heavily sexualized in the mainstream, the more social aspect of pup play has started to become popular within the community. Some even avoid the sexual entirely. This has led to many discussions as to what pup play (and pet play in general) really means to each individual pup, and how it can be used as a form of self expression.
Who can be a human pup?
Any human.
Do I need specific gear to be a human pup?
The main draw of puppy play is getting into the headspace. Some pups are able to do this without any gear at all, while others are more comfortable wearing something like a collar, or a pup hood. Gear is by no means a requirement!
Of course, during a pup mosh, it is a good idea to come prepared for an extended period spent on all fours. Knee pads and knuckle protection (like MMA boxing gloves) are important to mitigate potential injuries to yourself, and keeping sharp objects (like spiked collars and most piercings) out is as important for the other pups around you (and potentially their expensive gear).
Do I need to be a pup to join YEG-PAH?
We have pups, kittens, ponies, handlers, and even people who are only curious about pet play. Anyone is welcome to join our community and learn more about it!
The term “pup play” is really just used for simplicity, but is inclusive of all pets/creatures and handlers.
Does pup play involve actual animal play?
No. Human pup play is conducted by adult humans, with other consenting adult humans. There is no involvement of any real animals at any time.
Does being a human pup mean I eat dog food?
No, dog food is made for dogs and was never intended for human consumption.
It might seem like a fun idea, but it can have unwanted results.
Treats or food for a human pup can take on many forms. Consider foods such as cereals or small candies, and there is nothing wrong with eating human food out of a dog bowl.
